I've just read a study of Scottish psychologists who found out that different music styles have different influence on the sense of taste. They asked 250 students to drink wine while listening to various types of music. Then the students had to rank the wine. People who were listening to rock music while drinking red wine estimated the wine to be 60 % richer in content than people who drank the same wine but without listening to any music. The same effect applied for white wine, however not with rock music, but with pop music. So if you want to mislead your guests about the quality of your wine cellar next time, serve the red one while playing Nirvana and the white one while playing Backstreet Boys ... ;-)
Researchers suppose that the various music styles stimulate different areas of the brain and that this stimulation has an effect on the gustative nerves at the same time as well.
Funny, isn't it? Did you ever notice such a difference before? Well, I'll have a try soon - sounds like a nice experimental setting for next Saturday evening ...
