i usually pick my heroes from literature & movies... what to say? I like Grace (and i love Lili Taylor for this performance) from "Arizona dream" although she kills herself in the end. I like Starling from "The silence of the lambs" (and yes, i love Jodie Foster too). I like the personages of Frances McDormand. If about men-heroes... Kevin Costner in "Dancing with wolves", the guy (i can't belive i can't remember the name right now:)) from "The Shawshank redemption", Forrest Gump and other Tom Hank's personages, personages of Steve Martin and Morgan Freeman, oh, Robert Redford in "The last castle" and not only... u see, these are only the movie ones:)))... Maybe i'll return for more...

I'm sorry I think hero is reference point as usual, isn't he. But reference point has been changing as we change angle of view. So like hero. I think there are no heroes in life. All the heroes in our mind only. In another words we always create our heroes ourselves. I believe in one thing about heroes -- no differences between hero and victim just angle of view.

Yes, i know everything is relative; but if about heroes - i would say there are heroes. Because there are things by which some people have influence over others, in the way to make them stronger, or better, or just to give them peace of mind; and doesn't matters if these heroes do this by their will or not, or if they are victims too in some meaning... I agree "hero" is relative and subjective by the certain level category; but he is still a hero because of his influence.

You said: "because of his influence". With all my respect -- all have influnce on us. Sun, wind, water, trees, clouds etc. All around us are the heroes. All the thing make us and change us. We could see that if we would.
You may be ment influence of human mind and behaviour? Heroes in presentation? Well... they are depended from our education and culture. We choose heroes which suit to us. So we are make all the heroes ourselves. And we destroy them as they have bored us. I think we are no need heroes or idols, we are need friends.
Really I have no pretending to loudly reply. Just a little chat or dialog :-)))

I like your views. You refer heroes as reference points of a person. In simpler term, and in most acknowledged term, heroes are the people who inspire us and in most cases, who have done great for their country or in their respective fields. I think heroes are comparable to saints. Heroes are worldly characters and saints are in the religious arena. And they are both victims or sinners.

As for me, historically, I am inspired by the life of Erin Brokovich, in her movie played by Julia Roberts. And mush as I am inspired by her incomparable role as a mother, I am also inspired by my own mom who I consider my heroine. And not to forget the wits, courage, and selfless acts of Jane Austen, author of Pride and Prejudice.

There are many considerable heroes/heroines of today (as well as villains). We choose our heroes basing on our own perspective. Your hero might be a villain for me and we could also be heroes for others. ^-^

Oh, yes, Jane Austen is one of my heroines too:)). And it is really great to see your heroes close to you - as moms and dads.

They're actually the greatest blessing I ever have. ^-^
