I think he is an awesome orator and sincere and his wife cheering as Obama respectfully walked him to his last ride in the presidential big green helicopter..on film live..she was cheering and in the background 2 million people boo-ed. firstly i'd like him to bring my friends home...his spech about washington leading his troops down a weary path and the small group beating the might British..and "take no more than you need", "do no harm", "treat thy neighbour as thyself" and the poet and funny reveended:
"may yellow be mellow,
may white do what's white" etc...
and the music and Canadian were there and celebrated here in Toronto on youngstreet, American's who moved here when Bush was "elected" and of course @ the embassy...he's got a lot of cleaning up to do after Bush but i berlieve:
"YES< WE CAN!!!!"
he's very inspirational..makes you believe you can do anything you put your mind to, and i believe him. now maybe the americans will be loved like us, the friendly, peace keepers Canadian, i never hated the people just the gov't. what do you guys think Obama now that he's officially in office will achieve or won't???
anyone is welcome to answer...diversity right?
cheers!!!

I think there are many ways to interpret your bleak message. Personally I'm prone to find it much like the irony and sarcasm sense of humor found to be popular amongst many of my own generation, especially academics.

i'm trying to hold-out ope on Obama, all i'm really saying is that her has great charm, Clinton is the last one who had charm, and his immorality with the Monika thing, didn't effect his ability to run a Nation, but his charm let him get away with a whole lot. Next, Bush, personally, i doubt i'm the only one who thinks that election was rigged, and he just bombed schools and hospitals in the name of peace. As for Obmaa, the first big thing he did concerning my Nation, which obviously i have concern for, was illegaly back out of the steel trade agreement, education has nothing to do with it. i also feel, it can be a good thing for the Canadians b/c we sell The United States our National resourses, the States refine it and we buy it back at a huge proce. Canada, standing on it's own, concerning our natural resources will create jobs, and save us a huge amount of money on what is originally ours. I still think he can be an awesome American president, but it's time for Canada to worry about itself. We do a lot for other countries and not by bombing the innocent:
"Bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity"
and i do feel we a much more , military wise, peaceful nation, but by no means perfect ourselves, i don't see what my education has to do with it. I read, and not just the go'vt papers but independent press.
Cynic...no..realist yes,

From most I read I sense we all mostly agree. To some extent however I think we have different things in mind, while it might seem as if we're exchanging thoughts on the same subject. That may contribute to some confusion.

Being European I have no say or claim in who should hold office in the US (or any country but Sweden for that sake). I really can't figure out how I should respond to "your US" this or that. While I recognize that foreign officials have all obligations and loyalties to represent their own nation and people, international politics is still quite fascinating and therefore somewhat fun to discuss. And I personally think all benefit more from generous mutuality.

My impression hearing Obama speak of "inclusiveness" was not that of him referring to trade policy. Democratic Party contenders and republicans alike attacked his campaign on protectionist proposals, didn't they? I think it's hard for anyone of us oversees to know what to think of trilateral (or so) trade agreements (within NAFTA), so I still won't try.

Following "9-11" the waging of "war on terror" was perhaps understandable, to a point. But as with the Gaza conflict, a proportional response is what is seen as justified by international standards (and certainly not for civilians to stand up for). Iraqis being to blame for what was carried out by al Qaeda was truly far fetched and a remarkable claim all along. Still, "Operation Enduring Freedom" is not carried out by the US alone, but by somewhat 50 countries (both Canada and Sweden included). I'm not passing judgment, but taking note that quite a few countries are part of it.

As for your or anyone's education, no such thoughts crossed my mind. I made a remark on the Armageddon prophecy, meant as appreciative of its sarcastic qualities.

aHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.....confusion on sarcastic comments, i've got my Father's British wit, so i'm disappointed i missed that one. You're right, "inclusion" wasn't referring to Trade Policy..but what was it referring to??? If Vague, like Nike's advertisement:
"Just Do It"...do what????? it was ingenious and sold, sold, sold, Nike shoes, shirts etc.....but the genius was in reaching everyone by being non-specific and not saying anything in specific. Is that what charming Obama did in his great speech? Or did i miss the point. I know he wanted the separation of the classes and races to end..was that what he was referring to? i must have misunderstood, so wrapped-up in all the passion. I didn't mention "operation Enduring Freedom" in my statemnt, the 50 other countires, mnie and yours included did not all bomb innocent children, and make angry son-daughterless parents, and they bombed hospitals etc. As Canadain, and i am in no way saying we shed no bloood but we are primarily peacekeeprs. A close friend of my family, Ryan, was trained in intelligence at
The Ontario Military College, very prestigious, not sure if i got the last word correct, i had looked into studying criminology there as they recruited me for my grades and chosen subjects, as it is free, but they own you. And for four yrs after you graduate you must legally do what-ever, where-ever they send you. He endd up in infiltry and only was sent once. As opposed to the American's who are exhausted doing mision after mission after mission, missing their wives, girl-friends, husbands, boy-freinds, parents, children, so i do feel for them.

N.A.F.T.A. from my political science studies is like the Canadian Senate, it exists but no longer does anything. I'm just going on one Prof's statement, or lecture, i have not looked into it so should not have made a comment. But i have looked into our Senate and they really don't do anything except give themseleves $100,000 raises , paid by the tax dollars.

Me too Keri! I enjoy discussions, although skiing might be even better :) Great slopes some places in Scandinavia for sure, but the Alps are about as conveniently within reach as well. My knowledge of NAFTA doesn't stretch far beyond having taken note of its "existence" so I really couldn't say boo. Making and keeping peace sounds better than mongering war!

I do think you're closing in on what I've pictured hearing Obama speaking of inclusiveness; uniting people through equal citizenship, regardless of ethnicity, class and even (to a point perhaps) attempting to overcome ideological divides (in favor of a pragmatic approach). Sure, there´s a certain sweet talk about it, but inspirational qualities might be what is really needed the most. Especially as times are harsh, and so it may very well be for years. For better days to come great efforts will have to made by the many. So, I still think that kind of leadership has its merits. No miracle cure will do the job, but understandably a lot of people may have heard whatever parts of the campaign message they most wanted to hear and also interpreted what was broad and vague quite vividly, each in his/her subjective way.

Take care!

Inspirational speeches are awesome when they unite, and that he seems to have done. I think your wife hit close to home, on all the pressure a "Saviur to humanity" might face. It's a little far fetched, but if people have to be a little blind to get out there and vote for once in their lives, because they have someone to believe in, so be it. But i don;'t think people need to constantly refer back to his race or anything else that isn't about Obama the "person and president" and I hoe he's able to overlook all the media pressure. I believe "character is fate" and he has a strong character. I was a little annoyed when he pulled back on the steel deal already in place with Canada, but maybe our leaders should make us a little more self-reliant as a nation. We shouldn't be selling our natural resources and buying them back refined. I think maybe I should now, look inward at my own leaders, and not how we got here. I hoe Obama does well, and it is true he is onlky human. And what is humanity if not "re-learnig" and learning again??? Maybe I was hasty in my response to the steel deal being pulled..maybe he is just looking out for His Nation and I should look to my leaders to stand their Own ground. Thanks for giving me something to think about. Yes, skiing would be nice, it's been one degree or over for two weeks now..May you and yours have a very happy Valentine's nite,
sincerely,
Keri

I'm not sure how to reply. I am a Chisrtian, but was , am, unaware of whee it states tht in The King James Bible...is that where it states this? could you send me the verse, I will look them up so I can better understand your reply, it is not that I don't believe you, please do not think that, I would just lke to futher educate myself as knowledge is power. I hope Obama does not bring America to it's knees, but so far he has only proven to be a great Orator, lets hope he walks the walks of his great promises, and is not just charming, for charm in my opinion, only seems to be manipulative, and used to pull wool over citizens eyes.
thank-you for your response,
Sincerely,

peace and love to you,
