Do you think human nature is ruining the world?

This is a question you really have to think about. I think quite a lot, more than I should, perhaps. Yet there are so many questions I come up with that I "think" are worth "thinking" about.
The other day, I was extremely overwhelmed by a woman who, not forcefully, tried to convince me that there is a god. Unfortunately, I am convinced otherwise. At the least, I was very upset afterwards.
I was thinking about how we as a human race, excuse my thought pattern, will never see eye to eye because we are so set in our ways. ( ! ! ! ) This can ruin the human race through argument, through disagreement, through fighting, killing. This upsets me so much that I can't even really think too much about it or I'll ruin myself as we know it.
My friend told me that without light, there can be no darkness. That is true, but I see so much overpowering darkness that the light is quickly dimming!. . . I really need someone to help me on this.
Do you see my agony? Is there anyone who truly sees this phenomenon? It seems like everyone I know has a strong belief in god or in some higher power but me. Basically, I'm alone, and I'm crying out for help...Thank you for your reply.
