Okay, I wanted to start this discussion, to listen to other opinions of what follows after death. I though about it a long time and discussed it for hours with my friends and family. I think here is a good place to start a discussion about it. First, I want to say that everyone can take part in it. It doesn't matter in what you believe, its only a talk about what could happen.

I think everyone will be reborn after death. The reason is simple: the physical expression of the "Conservation of energy" told us, that no energy could dissapear without a trace. And isn't the "soul" a kind of energy, too? In this case a "life energy". The reason of life is to learn in my opinion. In every life of your several ones you learn a little bit more of everything what is to know. You feel every emotion, live every situation that exists. If you are "finished", you may raise to a higher existance and learn even more. My theories are based on a kind of process of development of your own self. "On the other side" you may remember the past lifes. But in every new life, you will have a new start, to make other experiences. I also believe in Providence, so everything what happens to you has got a higher purpose.

This is a roughly view in my opinion about this fascinating subject. But please note, that these are only my thoughts about it, so it's okay if you believe in everything, as long as you are happy with it. You can post it here, I'm always interested in other perspectives.

Interesting thoughts, Patrice.

But what leads you to think that there are many lives?
Do you also believe in Heaven, Hell and Purgatory?

Thanks Elsa,
Well, I believe in many lives or a "sequel" like Thomas said because I can't believe that there will nothing follow after that. But that's not all. The life of a human is (or should be) characterized by insights and gaining knowledge. I believe that our "soul" is developing during our life and everything around us (good and bad things) is helping us to learn somehow. So in your next life, your body won't know anything anymore, but your soul keeps the experience of every life until it's somehow complete, you know? It's like I said above. You can think of your soul like a dusty diamond. In every life you clean one part of it and someday it's clean and shiny again. ;) I read this in a book and thought it's quite good to understand. This would be a possibility which makes sense, in my opinion.

And I don't really believe in heaven or hell. I think you'll just keep up learning until you got everything. Evil people haven't learned much, in my opinion. Oh and after you're done with learning, you'll rise to the "next level" ...maybe. But honestly, what's life if it's not a long lasting progress of learning?

why not try to learn and clear it as much in this one and, when dead, purify it so that it may enjoy God forever? (that's the christian perspective, where purgatory would have the function of the many lives you say it involves to be ready for the party... ; )

It would be a never ending story if you wait until it is completely clean because life involves freedom, which involves mistakes and living many lives would make it a vicious cycle because humans are not meant to be perfect during life...
Plus, the universe is aging and time is space-dependent.

Of course, I respect your opinion. And I'm glad you're trying to learn :)

Hmm, maybe you didn't exactly understand what I meant. Well, I didn't mean that you'll be reborn until you're absolutely perfect in one single life, that would be of course quite unrealistic. No, I think it's important to make mistakes, that's the way to learn. Make a mistake, think about it and realize how you can improve it. The most important thing is what you learned during life and how you changed yourself or your opinions (self-motivated of course!). If you think you're okay, then it's good. But if you changed your mind accept it and live that way. So you don't have to live a perfect life without any "sins" or mistakes to improve yourself. ;)

But what's time and space when you're dead? Does it mean anything to you then?

Well, for me, there is no "true believe", you know? Every religion claims that it would be the only one. There are so many possibilities of opinions. Okay, many important theories of science are not proven, but in my view, the religious ones are even more incertain. And well... I know that we won't know what will happen unless we're dead, that's why the people should write what they think. But I'm already familiar with the christian view to this matter.

well, as a catholic,i believe in what the bible says. it says that there is no life after death. yova's right,if your dead youre gone. although some "practices" and religions believe in in reincarnation, past lives and stuff like those. BUT! nobody really knows, right?i mean, nobody HERE has risen from the dead..?? nobody really knows..

Reply to This

yeah. nothing really proves the afterdeath. so there's faith. for some people, faith is stupidity, and for some others, it's everything. just take a side, never be between.

Reply to This

Why? There's no reason to take only one side. I'm convinced that some people think faith isn't all stupidity BUT don't follow any religion or whatever, because I'm such a person. (See it as agnosticism.) So why should they give up their own ("mixed") opinion and follow one of both sides?

I think that every opinion has it's own view that sounds like they might be on to something. And i must admit that it is a subject that would be great to fully understand... but if you live your life riding a bike, only paying attention to to all the details of the the bikes motion and the other details surrounding the bike it self, then how will you truely enjoy the bike ride? Live life. Trying to find such an answer to a question is stopping you from enjoying life. Does there HAVE to be a reason for life? If you found 100 dollars, would you sit there and ask "why did I find this money" or would you just except the fact that you have it and spend it?

I agree with Yova there, just a big fat nothing... I think ppl have a hard time dealing with mortality and that they, no matter how much the wish it were different, are going to ceace to exist. The whole after life, which ever you belive in, is ppls feeble way of making themselves feel better about "the end" of there own "god complex" in there life that revolves around them.... Mormons are the most irreverantly engrossed ppl in that respect, they belive here on earth they are "god like" and that when they pass, there "god" will make them a "god" of there own planet. Just friggen WEIRD.

The ride of our life begins and we fall down a shaft within our mind to the magical rainbow slide.

I really dont know, haha

it can be nothing, just black after this life. i should point out that in physics, black is not really a color, it means lack of everything. its just another term for 'nothing'

it would sure be good if there's heaven, or if the end of our life in this world is a start in another, different world.

reincarnation sucks, because every human would probably become a lower life form. i dont like hell either, its too hot there, i think. :3

:p
